Scorched Nuts updates

Howdy folks! I'm bringing you news of ways to help out Scorched Nuts by camping with friends and tickets changes and updates.

)*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*(

SN Volunteer Work Weekend
May 31-June 1
Hannon's Camp America

As we quickly approach the second year for Scorched Nuts (http://scorchednuts.org) we wanted to let you know of a way to benefit the community, the event, and the camping venue. Burners from IN, KY, and OH will be gathering at Hannon's Camp America (the venue for Scorched Nuts) from May 31st to June 1. We'll be camping out (free tent camping, $10 bunk rental if that's your thing), painting signs, digging post holes, building bridges, and ladders into tree houses. This work is mutually beneficial to the community and Hannon's. Come help us foster more community growth and give back. And as always is the case when Burners gather to work, we'll have an amazingly good time.

)*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*(

SN Ticket Changes and Updates

Hey folks, we've been looking over our ticket sales deadlines and have decided to make a couple of quick, and beneficial to the procrastinator, revisions. First, the deadline for mail-in orders has been pushed back to May 31st for the postmarked date. If it's postmarked after that you're check or money order will be sent back in the mail and you'll have to purchase your ticket on-line or with a vendor. Secondly, tickets will be on sale on-line and will vendors until June 12th. After that time you can purchase your tickets at the gate. Also, you have until midnight tonight to purchase a ticket for the $30 price, after that until June 12th tickets will be $40. We've also lowered the gate price to $50. All deadlines, unless otherwise noted, are until 11:59pm of the date listed. Also please note that there has been a gate policy change, there will be NO in-and-out passes this year. Be prepared to come and stay. You will not be permitted to leave and come back once you exit the gates. Thank you.

To summerize:

Mail-in postmark Deadline: May 31st for $40 tickets
On-line/Vendor Deadline: June 12th for $40 tickets
$30 Ticket Deadline (on-line only): May 12th
$40 Ticket Deadline: June 12th
$50 Gate Ticket Sales: June 19th during gate hours - June 21st at 5pm
No leaving once you've arrived.

)*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*(

Thank you all for your help and your patience. We hope to see you out at Scorched Nuts, or any of the upcoming events, gatherings, work weekend, etc that we have going on through out the year.

As always, be safe, be happy, and have fun.

Madison, WI Campus Fire Spinning Group - MadCity Fire Project

I am posting this across a few different groups that may have some interested people.

We are a small group of fire spinners that meet (almost) every Sunday on the UW-Madison Campus to spin fire and hang out.
This Sunday is the "official" re-commencement date for us to start meeting again. Same as last year, we are meeting at the fountain between the union and library mall... around sunset.

It would be really awesome to get Madison-area fire spinners together again.

Bring a drum (or other musical instrument if you so desire) if you have one, and bring your fire toys and fuel.

Call me if you need any more information.

BURNING MAN WISCONSIN -- CALL FOR ARTISTS!

BURNING MAN WISCONSIN--- CALL FOR ARTISTS, technologists, IT people and Do-It-Yourselfers. Interactive dancers, DJ's, painters, fashion designers, sculptors, musicians, welders, poets, visual artists, performance artists of all kinds.

In mid-June we are doing a large-scale Burning Man event.

If you know nothing about Burning Man, or just a little about it, let us explain why the impact of the Burning Man experience has been so profound that a culture has formed around it. This culture pushes the limits of experience and has led to people banding together nation-wide and putting on their own events in an attempt to rekindle that magic feeling of being a part of this community. This will be one of those events.

Art is such an unavoidable part of this experience that Larry Harvey, founder of the Burning Man project, gives an art-theme to each year, to encourage a common bond and help tie each individual's contribution together in a meaningful way. Participants are encouraged to make the theme come alive, whether it is through a large-scale art installation, a theme camp, gifts brought to be given to other individuals, costumes, or any other medium that one comes up with. There will be spectators and interested people at this event, but it's really about us. The spectators just pay for the room rental to make it possible. We all get in for free and get free drinks and treats. If any $ is left over, we can give out Art Grants... as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit we can do that.

We are approaching all the interesting, mixed media groups and creative people and asking each one to create an interactive "environment" that really reflects what they do, what they are about. It could be something with hangings, projections, activities, giveaways.... a little world where your fellow creative people can come in, participate, and really meet you. And you will you have plenty of time off to tour their little worlds. Experience the Gift Economy that is Burning Man, which we are bringing to Milwaukee. This idea might be new to you--like a potluck dinner, you bring something and then share in what everyone else brings. You always come away with far more than you bring. You will directly participate in their world and their process. You will engage others, others will engage you. We challenge you to radically express yourself, and be brave enough to experience the radical expressions of others.

Send us your info if you want to be a part of this!

Your name, email or physical address and phone number, type of art or creation that you do and how it is interactive, your availability June 14th or June 21st. Please respond ASAP because space is limited. Deadline is May 14th. Please respond to instituteforthought@gmail.com.

The Institute For Thought is a 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

For more info check out: http://www.daytoncircus.org

Deadline for submissions to The Sideshow 2008 is March 16th.

Share your work at The Sideshow, an event of grand proportions!

Friday May 16th and Saturday May 17th 2008
At a venue in Downtown Dayton (To Be Announced)

The Sideshow is an annual event in cooperation with The Dayton Circus Creative Collective. Previous year's events connected many genres of art, from music and food to installation and performance art - spectacular nights showcasing many artists both new and established, from many diverse backgrounds. This year's event will be even more incredible. Join us at The Sideshow and share your artistic vision with Dayton and the World!!

We are open to art of all forms. If you've never shown your artwork or performed publicly before, The Sideshow may be the perfect event for your debut! Static artists have the opportunity to show their work in creative instillations, and two stages will be made available to musical acts and performance artists. We encourage musical acts to include visual or interactive parts to their performance. If you have a vision to be realized in another way, please contact us, we may be able to accommodate you. We want you to help us create a show that Dayton will remember.

APPLICATION

Please include the following information:
1. Your Name/Your Group's Name
2. What does your creation look or sound like? How do you affect your audience? What do you want them to feel, think, and experience?
3. How much space will you need to share your art? If performing, how much time?

Please remember to include visuals and/or audio of your work. Artwork submitted by those chosen as contributing artists may be used in promotion of The Sideshow, The Dayton Circus Creative Collective, and especially YOU. All artists will be encouraged to make their work available for sale, and there is no commission fee for selling work at The Sideshow. If you choose to donate any of your proceeds, the contribution will be tax deductible.

If you are selected as a contributing artist, members of The Dayton Circus will gladly assist you in meeting obligatory periodic "milestones" including: preparing an artist's statement, contributions for promotional materials, attendance at planning meetings and installation of work. This is a cooperative community event, and all contributors will be required to volunteer one day (4-8 hours) of effort beyond the installation of their own work. You will soon find out how exhilarating, stimulating and rewarding is to work with such an energetic and creative group! We want this show to not only include your creation but your energy as well.

We would like to challenge you to avoid using paper, CDs or other resources unnecessarily. It is preferred that you submit your application letter via e-mail to thesideshow@DaytonCircus.org with 2-5 examples of your work attached. We prefer MP3's for Audio, YouTube for video, and JPG's for photos, though we can work with most digital formats. We may request more examples of your work before making our decision.

Tiffany Clark would love to help you put together your application. You can reach her at (937) 878-0006

I've started holding Workshop Weekends in Middletown, Ohio on a variety of subjects. One thing that seems to be in high demand right now is stilts. So I was wondering if any of you wonderful Circus Arts folks lives in the Middle/Southern Ohio region and would like to maybe hold a workshop in the future (say April-ish)? Pm me if you have any questions about the workshops, would like to attend one, and/or would be able and willing to hold a workshop (not just stilts....we want to learn it all....we're greedy like that....heeheehee). Thanks!

InterFuse - Booneville, Missouri
May 3-6 (Thurs-Sun)
http://www.midwestburners.com

So, here's the deal, right now there are three definite camp members and one maybe. Not a lot of people, but there's still time to plot and plan. So, this year we're working on a camp that will consist of a double dome design (one dome for the public and one for our private camp use with a fire barrell....which would heat the public dome during the evening), a stage for performances of any kind (if you want to contribute a poem, a dance, a play, etc....do, do, do it), and at least one effigy contribution (we're workin' on designs and procession plans at this time). Now, if you're wanting/planning/hoping to go and would like to camp with others from the upper midwest/great lakes area, just let me know. Also, if you want to contribute to any of the above projects, again, let me know....same with questions, comments, and critiques. Oh....and if you want to stay with us, but aren't able to be there the whole time....don't worry one bit about it...we'll make sure that you have a space to call your own.

The planning has begun!

The OVCE is a band of local artists & activists that are banding together to get a community art center built that totally supports itself on the fact that it is built on top of a landfill. This is pretty exciting shit and you can read more on their website. These are some of the coolest people EVER, too... I must add.

For Directions: oglecenter.ius.edu/maps.cfm

We will discuss the use of landfill gas as renewable energy source for communities and more specifically the utilization of this resource in the arts & the proposed project in Southern Indiana.

Our main goal of this gathering is to engage and excite you about this project. SO NEWCOMERS ARE TOTALLY WELCOME! We want to know what you like about the project, why you are interested, and how you may be able to help.

This event is open to the public, so please bring along ~anyone~ who may have interest.

I can tell you, to totally feel free to call Lori for more info. No question is too dumb!

Thought I would pass along the info! Last year was AMAZING!! Would love to see and meet some more fellow performers!

~
All the infor mation below and more are listed on www.midwestburners.com

Feel free to pass this along to others. We just ask that you don't post this info on large party sites. We want prepared participants, not weekend partiers...Gawddammit! ;)

==================================
Midwest Burners, a whimsical heartland Burning Man group, is proud to announce our third annual Regional Burn, InterFuse 2006: Archaic Imagination

Where: The magickal land of Ozark Avalon, Boonville, Missouri

When: A time outside of time, May 5-7, 2006

Midwest Burners is a Burning Man inspired group radiating out from the Kansas City area. Many InterFuse participants come from the Kansas City and St. Louis areas, since InterFuse is primarily a collaboration between these two communities. However, we encourage any other Burners, especially those in the Midwest, to come co-create the InterFuse experience. Of course, you don't need to be a previous Burner to attend this event. The goal of InterFuse is to unite the scattered Burners and pre-Burners of the Midwest in the flames of this celebration of Art, Fire, and Life - further spreading the unique Burning Experience through the region.

Theme:
This year we are exploring the art, symbols, and archetypes in ancient fairy tale, myth, and folklore.

Pantheon Project:
This year's Main Burn will again be a radically participatory project. From the depths of our communal imagination, we're bringing forth a Pantheon of mythical images. We invite everyone to contribute or create small fantasy creatures, temples, figures, symbols, monuments, prayers, mementos, and messages etc. to inhabit this scene. The Pantheon can accommodate both aerial and terrestrial creatures. No one will know what will inhabit the Pantheon until we put it together at the event. The level of participation will determine how fantastical our creation will be.

Tickets:. All tickets are $15 and are PRE-SALES only. Ticket sales began in March 2005. NOTE: Last day to buy tickets is 4-23-06!!

Only Midwest Burners Association members and their guests may participate in InterFuse. Membership is free and simple though!! For more information on membership, InterFuse, and the Pantheon Project, please visit www.midwestburners.com

The first episode is done, we are discussing getting better equipment and a way that we can do phone interviews without it sounding like you are going through the PA at BurgerKing.

There is going to be a lot more coming with the show; book, video, and show reviews. Various ramblings from the road on the way to interviews, and everything else in between.

So, check it out and let us know what you think
